Dabei liegt einer der gr\u00f6\u00dften CO\u2082-Speicher direkt unter unseren F\u00fc\u00dfen: der Boden. Humus \u2013 die organische Substanz im Boden \u2013 bindet Kohlenstoff, der sonst als CO\u2082 in die Atmosph\u00e4re entweichen w\u00fcrde.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Konkret gilt: Eine Tonne Humus bindet rund 2 Tonnen CO\u2082-\u00c4quivalente und zus\u00e4tzlich etwa 58 Kilogramm Stickstoff. Wird Humus im Boden abgebaut, kehrt sich dieser Effekt um \u2013 der gebundene Kohlenstoff wird wieder als CO\u2082 freigesetzt. Der Vergleich macht die Gr\u00f6\u00dfenordnung deutlich: Die Verbrennung von einer Tonne Roh\u00f6l setzt etwa 3,1 Tonnen CO\u2082 frei, die Zersetzung von einer Tonne Humus rund 2,1 Tonnen. Humus im Boden zu erhalten und aufzubauen ist damit ein handfester Beitrag zum Klimaschutz.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Das 4-Promille-Programm:<\/strong> <strong>Eine kleine Zahl mit gro\u00dfer Wirkung<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Auf dem Klimagipfel von Paris 2015 wurde eine bemerkenswerte Rechnung vorgestellt, das sogenannte \u201e4-Promille-Programm\u201c: W\u00fcrde der Humusgehalt landwirtschaftlich genutzter B\u00f6den weltweit j\u00e4hrlich um nur 4 Promille-Punkte angehoben, lie\u00dfen sich die gesamten j\u00e4hrlichen anthropogenen CO\u2082-Emissionen vollst\u00e4ndig im Boden binden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Diese Zahl zeigt zweierlei: Wie wirksam gesunde, humusreiche B\u00f6den f\u00fcr den Klimaschutz sind \u2013 und wie wichtig es ist, Humus nicht nur zu erhalten, sondern aktiv aufzubauen. Kompost aus der Bioabfallverwertung ist daf\u00fcr einer der wertvollsten Bausteine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Kompost: Der Baustoff f\u00fcr neuen Humus<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jede Tonne Kompost liefert rund 70 Kilogramm Humus-Kohlenstoff, was etwa 120 Kilogramm dauerhaftem Humus entspricht, und bindet damit rund 0,25 Tonnen CO\u2082-\u00c4quivalente im Boden. Gleichzeitig verbessert Humus die Wasserspeicherf\u00e4higkeit des Bodens erheblich: Eine Tonne Humus kann zus\u00e4tzlich rund 5.000 Liter pflanzenverf\u00fcgbares Wasser speichern \u2013 und das mehrfach im Jahr. In Zeiten von Trockenperioden und Starkregen ist das ein handfester Vorteil f\u00fcr Landwirtschaft, Gartenbau und st\u00e4dtisches Gr\u00fcn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Wirtschaftlich betrachtet ist Kompost zudem ein Schn\u00e4ppchen f\u00fcr den Klimaschutz: Eine Tonne Kompost kostet frei Boden rund 5 Euro, ihr tats\u00e4chlicher N\u00e4hr- und Humuswert liegt bei etwa 20 Euro pro Tonne.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Kompost im gro\u00dfen Ma\u00dfstab: Deutschlands stille Klimaleistung<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In Deutschland entstehen j\u00e4hrlich rund 4 Millionen Tonnen Kompost aus haushaltsnahen Bioabf\u00e4llen und Gr\u00fcngut. Zur Einordnung: Bei 25 Tonnen Kompost pro Lkw w\u00e4ren das etwa 160.000 Lkw-Ladungen \u2013 aneinandergereiht eine rund 3.000 Kilometer lange, 30-spurige Lkw-Schlange, das entspricht in etwa der Strecke von Aachen bis weit nach Osteuropa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Heruntergerechnet auf jeden Einwohner in Deutschland sind das etwa 50 Kilogramm bzw. 75 Liter Kompost pro Jahr \u2013 ungef\u00e4hr eine Schubkarre voll.
